Raindrops
by Gonapragasen Kathan Naicker

(Written by a grandpa for his granddaughter)

Gentle raindrops
falling on the roof tops
I love the sound of raindrops
like little dancing feet
tap, tap, tap,
on roof slate tiles
over my room, at the top
of our two story house

through my misty window
I watch the rain drops
falling on the cobblestone walk
go pitter pat, pitter pat
and when the wind blows
in the direction of my window
I hear the raindrops
go tap, tap on the windowpane

I want to go out and play
go round and round
like a merry go round
on my front garden lawn
and feel the cool raindrops
like a drum beat
gently beating on my head

I think I will slowly steal
out of the house
I will tip toe down the stairs
sneak out of the house
to run and frolic in the rain
I will skip and dance
and around and around I will go
with hands outstretched
I will fly like an airplane
I truly love playing
in the cool gentle rain.
