‘Mom and Me’ is one of the most charming books I have read in recent times. Like a Hrishikesh Mukherjee film of the seventies (ask your mom and she’ll tell you what I mean), this book is a complete package. A mint fresh concept, original treatment, tongue in cheek humor, heart tugging sentiment and those delectable nuggets which make up every ‘Mom and Me’ real life story, the book will sweep you off your feet.
It has got ten stories which delve into various facets of a mother-daughter, mother-son relationships from quirky to the cute, the sensitive to the sentimental and the gawky to the gut wrenching. Nine stories have been penned by the well known and not so famous writers and the tenth is about how Mother’s Day came into being. While all the stories are worth a read, tales by Paro Anand, Deepa Agarwal, Subhadra Sen Gupta and Jyoti Pande Lavakare are truly outstanding.
An added bonus is the section devoted to “25 Fun Things to do with or for Mom’. Here we have a delightful piece devoted to ‘saying mom in 20 different languages’. Out of 20 languages there are only three languages in which the word ‘mom’ doesn’t start with ‘Ma’ or ‘Mo’! Isn’t it a great example of brotherhood or rather ‘motherhood’ of man?
The cover design by Vinayak Verma is very attractive and the overall get up of the book is pleasing.
‘Mom and Me’ is an ideal gift not merely for Mother’s day or B’day but any Day!
