The Lesson
by Nevin Paul Jose

Once upon a time a poor man named Shyam had a son called Akash and both were very hungry . They went to Akash’s best friend’s father, Mr. Sanjay for some help. But Sanjay was a rude person. When they pleaded for food and money he said, “ Food and money ? No! Never, I won’t give you any.” When Sanjay’s son Ankit heard what his father said he felt very sorry for them, because he could not do anything for them. He got an idea and said “Yes! I will ask my grandfather what can I do to give you food and money. My grandfather always shows me the right way.”

He ran to his grandfather and said, “Grandpa My friend Akash and his father are very hungry and poor . They had come to our house and requested daddy for food and money, but daddy ignored them.

His grandfather’s name was Jatin. He asked, “Do you really want to make a sacrifice yourself, so as to get them food and money?” Ankit immediately said, “Yes grandpa, I want to do that”.

Grandpa said, “If you really want, then you have to earn yourself and buy them some food.”

Ankit thought for a while, then decided he could hunt animals, sell them and earn money. He went to the jungle and started hunting animals. He killed many animals like deer, antelopes, rabbits, peacocks and sold them. He hunted for two weeks, collected all the money he got by selling the hunted animals and went to his best friend’s house. Akash was very delighted to see him. Ankit said, “Akash, I know you are very hungry, so I have brought some money, so that you and your father can buy food.” Seeing the excitement on Akash’s face, Ankit was happy.

Ankit now thought, ‘I am a good hunter, so I can earn lot of money and started hunting again’. He hunted almost daily and after some months, he could not find animals easily. All the animals of the jungle were very angry with Ankit, as he was hunting them as well as their young ones. Everyone got together and went to meet the Lion king.

The horse said, “Sir, please do something, else he will kill all of us. We should punish Ankit”. So they all made a plan to scare Ankit away. The next day when Ankit came to hunt as a part of his routine, he saw a deer and started chasing it. The deer went deep into the forest where the forest was thick and dark. Suddenly he saw a lion and a tiger chasing him. Ankit ran for his life and ran home. Ankit was so scared that he never came to the forest to hunt again.

Moral : We should help each other and should not be greedy.
