Swadha Mohanty
by Ankita Kumar
An artist Discovered

It is really heartening to see that an eight year old can draw a portrait without any training and has already decided that she wants to become a painter and an artist in future.

I am talking about Swadha Mohanty, a class three student. Her parents say she had learnt how to draw a straight line when she was just two. Believe it or not at the age of 4-1/2 she won the first prize in a painting competition leaving behind children much older to her. She has a vivid imagination and derives inspiration from her parents, her elder brother and her teacher Mr. P.C. Mohapatra.

Her father Mr. R.S. Mohanty is a Junior Manager (Finance & Accounts) in Rourkela Steel Plant and her mother Mrs. Sasmita Mohanty is a house wife.

Swadha’s sense of color, her deft understanding of the nuances of art, her uncanny ability to create magic with pencil and brush is a clear indication that we have a Da Vinci or a Picasso in the making!

Click to see one of her paintings here!
