I hold in my hand
by Swasti Shukla

I hold in my hand a potion unlike any other.

A potion which contains a mixture so strong it will reach down into your very soul and it shall jolt you with a gush of feelings and emotions. You already have these feelings and emotions, but you are unaware of them at the moment. They have been ebbed away by the mildew of hate, anger, and jealousy. This potion shall restore those long-lost feelings and emotions.

The first few feelings this potion contains are compassion and sympathy, which you can gently hand over to those who have none. Such feelings can only be handed over when you express them. The feeling known as integrity shall bleach out the molds of terrorism and murder that try to hide in the crevices of your mind. No matter how hard they try to escape, no nation shall waste their sympathy on those horrendous acts of terrorism. Jealousy shall try it's best to flurry them up, but sadly there shall be no response, for just like humans who host germs, terrorism is a host to the virus "hopelessness."

The potion also holds the gift of honesty so all secrets shall be kept, except for the dishonest secrets floating around, looking for a brain to nestle in; such as those which plot out crime. We all know that murderous secrets should never be kept. This ingredient shall insure no back-biters.

A slight tinge of courage is included as well. This will allow anyone to go after someone in need; but the strongest ingredient is unlike any other. It contains a completely different purpose. It should be given to all. The missing ingredients are love and respect that unites all.

Yes it is true, for in the end it is the gift of love and respect that always prevails.

7th grader Swasti Shukla from Cupertino, California express herself candidly with a potion to help overcome the tragedy that took place on September 11, 2001.
