A streetlight shone on a lonely night
The sky was dark, the stars so bright
And beneath the sky sat three drunk men
Playing cards, lives depend on them.
A swig for each from a bottle of rum
As each one tried to match the sum
The life they thought that they will free
If they played cards for hours three.
A tabby cat slinked by, stepping on its toes
Spectacles slipped off the third man’s nose
He never noticed, and neither did they
The ones who played the lives away.
Lone scooters shuffled by out of bounds
Sniffing around like hunting hounds
A lightning struck a killer knife
Yet three drunk men played cards on life.
