The Shadow
by Ananya Prasad
There was a boy whose name was Vishal. Vishal was very intelligent, brave and strong. He was thinking about his dadi’s (grandmother’s) house.

One month ago thieves broke  into his grandma’s house. While entering into the house, they damaged the paint on the walls and they also stole jewellery.  Vishal thought that he would paint the house green and   and sketch some drawings on the walls to make them shine. The walls shined so well that if anybody walked past them, the person's shadow fell on them.  He also imagined decorating the walls of the compound.
Vishal was doing all this to catch the thieves who broke into his grandma’s  house and stole things. Vishal painted the house and the house looked new. He also painted the cupboards. Vishal put fake jewellery in them and hid him behind them at night. He made a team with Soni and Rohan to catch the thieves.  Then he started doing his work according to his plan. Suddenly he heard the main door opening.

He called his team members and through the door entered a cat! And they were surprised to see a cat! In the meantime the other members of the family came hearing the noise. They became angry with Vishal as  he was disturbing their sleep. They said they would punish him for creating disturbance at night. The thieves were watching them from behind a tree and they smiled and  left.

No one knew about their plan of sending the cat. Poor Vishal was punished in the morning, he was not given breakfast. He was kept hungry.

But no one could understand who was more intelligent: the thieves or Vishal? It remained a mystery because we cannot see ‘reality’. We are used to seeing the shadow in darkness!
